Liposuction (HD / 360)
A contouring operation, not a weight-loss one. It removes fat from specific areas that have not responded to diet and training, and it works best on people who are already close to where they want to be.

01 · Understanding the concern
Why patients consider this
Fat distribution is largely genetic. Flanks, the lower abdomen, the inner thighs and the area under the chin often persist regardless of body fat percentage, which is frustrating for people who are otherwise fit. Liposuction addresses those deposits directly. What it does not do is treat weight, skin laxity or the visceral fat that sits behind the abdominal wall.
02 · The procedure
What liposuction (hd / 360) involves
Through small incisions, a cannula is used to break up and remove subcutaneous fat under tumescent anaesthesia. High-definition work goes further, sculpting around muscle boundaries to reveal existing anatomy. A 360 approach treats the abdomen, flanks and back as a continuous circumference rather than a single front-facing area, which is what stops the result looking like a front-only correction.
03 · Candidacy
Who may be considered
This is general guidance rather than a diagnosis. Suitability is decided by examination.
- Close to a stable weight, with localised deposits rather than generalised excess
- Reasonable skin quality, since skin needs to retract over the new contour
- Non-smokers or those able to stop for the period advised
- Realistic about contour improvement rather than transformation
- Medically fit for anaesthesia
What it can address
Concerns it is used for
- Flanks and love handles
- Lower and upper abdomen
- Inner and outer thighs
- Upper arms
- Bra line and upper back
- Submental fullness under the chin

04 · Planning
Why the planning matters more than the technique
Skin quality decides more than fat volume. Removing fat from an area where skin will not retract produces a looser contour than before, so in some cases a skin-tightening procedure is the right answer and liposuction alone is not. That conversation happens before surgery, not after.
05 · How it works
Step by step
- 01
Marking
Areas are marked with you standing, since contour changes when you lie down.
- 02
Tumescent infiltration
Fluid is infiltrated to reduce bleeding and provide anaesthesia.
- 03
Fat removal
A cannula is used through small access points to remove fat in even passes.
- 04
Contour refinement
Transitions between treated and untreated areas are feathered so no edges are visible.
- 05
Closure and garment
Access points are closed and a compression garment is fitted.
- 06
Review
Scheduled follow-up to monitor swelling and contour.
06 · The procedure journey
Before, during and after
Before
Investigations and anaesthetic assessment, stopping smoking for the period advised, and arranging help at home for the first few days.
During
Depending on the areas treated, under local with sedation or general anaesthetic. Often a day case; overnight stay for larger volumes.
After
Compression garment, bruising and swelling, and drainage from access points for the first day or two.
07 · Recovery
What recovery generally involves
Most people are walking the same day and back to desk work within about a week, though this depends on the areas treated. Bruising settles over two to three weeks. Swelling is the slow part: the contour continues to refine over several months, and judging the result at six weeks is premature. Compression garments are worn for the period specified.
Recovery times are general ranges. Your own timeline depends on the extent of treatment, your health and your work, and is given at consultation.
- Wear the compression garment exactly as instructed
- Walk early and often, but no gym until cleared
- Expect firmness and irregularity during the swelling phase
- Attend reviews so contour can be assessed properly
- Weight gain afterwards will still change the result
08 · Outcomes
What to expect from the result
Liposuction improves shape in the treated areas. It does not prevent future weight gain, treat cellulite reliably, or tighten loose skin. Final contour is generally assessed at several months. Results vary and are not guaranteed.
09 · Safety
Risks and considerations
Risks include bleeding, infection, contour irregularity, asymmetry, prolonged swelling, changes in skin sensation, seroma, and the anaesthetic risks associated with any operation. Volume limits and staged treatment exist for safety reasons and are not negotiable. Your individual risk profile is discussed at consultation.
No procedure is risk-free. A full, individual discussion of risk forms part of consent and takes place before any decision is made.
10 · The surgeon
Why Dr. Swikriti Raniwala
The surgeon who assesses you performs the procedure and reviews you afterwards. Surgical work takes place in accredited surgical facilities with board-certified anaesthesiologists, and you leave the consultation with the plan and the costs in writing.

Questions patients ask
Liposuction (HD / 360): common questions
Is liposuction a weight-loss procedure?
No. It is a contouring procedure for localised fat in people near a stable weight. Weight loss is achieved by other means.
What is 360 liposuction?
Treatment of the abdomen, flanks and back as a continuous circumference rather than only the front, so the contour is consistent from every angle.
What is HD liposuction?
More detailed sculpting around existing muscle boundaries. It requires good skin quality and low body fat to be appropriate.
Will the fat come back?
Fat cells removed do not return, but the remaining cells can enlarge with weight gain, which changes the result.
How long until I see the final shape?
Swelling resolves gradually. Contour is usually assessed at several months rather than weeks.
Does liposuction treat loose skin?
No. Where skin laxity is the main issue, a skin-removing procedure such as a tummy tuck may be the appropriate discussion.
