Hair Transplant
Moving hair from where you still have it to where you no longer do. The surgery is well established; the judgement is in how the hairline is designed and how the donor area is managed for the next twenty years.

01 · Understanding the concern
Why patients consider this
Most people arrive after several years of watching the change. Male pattern hair loss follows a fairly predictable pattern — temples first, then the crown — while female pattern loss tends to widen the parting and thin diffusely. Either way, hair transplantation moves follicles that are genetically resistant to loss into areas where hair has gone. It does not stop the underlying process, which is why planning matters more than graft numbers.
02 · The procedure
What hair transplant involves
A hair transplant relocates follicular units from a donor area, usually the back and sides of the scalp, into the recipient area. The follicles are harvested either individually (FUE) or from a removed strip of scalp which is then dissected under magnification (FUT). Recipient sites are made at an angle and density that match how hair naturally grows in that part of the scalp. The transplanted follicles shed within weeks and regrow from the same roots over the following months.
03 · Candidacy
Who may be considered
This is general guidance rather than a diagnosis. Suitability is decided by examination.
- Hair loss that has been stable long enough to plan around, or is being medically managed
- A donor area with enough density to supply the area being covered
- Realistic expectations about coverage rather than the density of your twenties
- General health suitable for a long day procedure under local anaesthetic
- Willingness to continue medical treatment where it has been advised, to protect existing hair
What it can address
Concerns it is used for
- A receded or uneven frontal hairline
- Thinning at the temples
- Crown or vertex thinning
- Scars from previous surgery or injury where hair no longer grows
- Eyebrow and beard density, in selected cases

04 · Planning
Why the planning matters more than the technique
The single most important decision is not how many grafts but where they go. A hairline placed too low or too straight ages badly, and donor hair is a finite resource. Planning accounts for how your hair loss is likely to progress over the coming decade, so the result still makes sense at 50, not only at 35.
05 · How it works
Step by step
- 01
Assessment
Scalp examination, donor density assessment and a discussion of whether medical treatment should run alongside surgery.
- 02
Hairline design
The hairline is drawn with you, in a mirror, before anything else happens. Nothing proceeds until you agree with it.
- 03
Harvesting
Follicular units are taken from the donor area by FUE or FUT, depending on what was agreed.
- 04
Graft preparation
Units are sorted under magnification by the number of hairs they contain, so single hairs can be placed at the front edge.
- 05
Placement
Recipient sites are created at matched angle and direction, and grafts are placed by density zone.
- 06
Review
Dressing, written aftercare and a scheduled first review.
06 · The procedure journey
Before, during and after
Before
Bloods and medical clearance, photographs for planning, and instructions about medication, alcohol and smoking in the days before.
During
A long day, usually under local anaesthetic. You are awake, can take breaks and can eat. Sessions commonly run several hours depending on graft numbers.
After
You go home the same day. The recipient area is tender and may show small crusts for several days; the donor area is sore rather than painful for most people.
07 · Recovery
What recovery generally involves
Most people return to desk work within about a week, though timing is often driven by how visible the area is rather than how you feel. Crusting settles in the first ten days or so. Transplanted hairs usually shed between weeks two and six, which is expected and not a failure of the graft. Regrowth typically becomes visible over the following months and continues to mature for around a year.
Recovery times are general ranges. Your own timeline depends on the extent of treatment, your health and your work, and is given at consultation.
- Sleep slightly elevated for the first few nights
- No direct scrubbing of the recipient area until advised
- Avoid gym, swimming and steam for the period specified in your aftercare
- Sun protection for the scalp
- Attend the scheduled reviews even if everything looks fine
08 · Outcomes
What to expect from the result
Coverage and density improve gradually rather than immediately, and the result depends on donor supply, the area being covered and how the underlying hair loss progresses. A second session is sometimes planned from the outset for larger areas. Outcomes vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.
09 · Safety
Risks and considerations
Hair transplantation is generally well tolerated, but it is still surgery. Possible issues include infection, folliculitis, temporary numbness, donor-area scarring (a fine line with FUT, small dots with FUE), and shock loss of existing hairs around the transplanted area. These are discussed in full at consultation, along with anything in your history that changes the picture.
No procedure is risk-free. A full, individual discussion of risk forms part of consent and takes place before any decision is made.

Questions patients ask
Hair Transplant: common questions
Cost depends on consultation, complexity and the plan; verified pricing is given in writing at consultation.
How many grafts will I need?
It depends on the area being covered, your existing density and donor supply. Graft numbers are estimated after examination, not from a photograph.
Is a hair transplant painful?
Anaesthetic injections are the uncomfortable part for most people. The procedure itself is generally not painful, and post-operative discomfort is usually managed with simple analgesia.
When will the new hair grow?
Transplanted hair usually sheds in the first weeks and regrows over the following months, with continued maturing for about a year.
Will I need medication as well?
Often, yes. Surgery restores hair where it has gone; medical treatment is what protects the hair you still have. Whether it applies to you is discussed at consultation.
Can women have a hair transplant?
Yes, in selected cases. Female pattern loss is more often diffuse, which affects donor quality and candidacy, so assessment is important.
How much does a hair transplant cost in Gurgaon?
Cost is driven by graft numbers, technique and session length. A written estimate is given after consultation. We do not quote per-graft prices before examining the scalp.
